Truth, Taste, and Tenterhooks: Crafting Content That Matters

We’ve all been there: ChatGPT drafts, rushed agency briefs, frantic Upwork searches — or typing away on your phone between meetings. It’s not ideal, but when time, budgets, and deadlines are tight, you do what you can.

Hi, I’m Brittany. I’ve worn all the hats: marketer, writer, and strategist. In-house, agency, and freelance. I’ve partnered with nonprofits that make a real impact, scrappy small businesses, and fast-paced startups. I’m known for quality content that cuts through the noise — and yes, I use AI.

In 2025, creating content is easier than ever. But creating great content — the kind that earns trust, engages supporters, and moves your mission forward — takes more than a quick fix.

Join me for a discussion about crafting meaningful, compelling content while making the most of the tools you have. We’ll break it down:

  • Truth: Keep your story honest and impactful — no clickbait, no fluff.

  • Taste: Align your message with your audience’s values and expectations.

  • Tenterhooks: Pay attention to performance. Track engagement, monitor social conversations, partner with others to expand reach, and keep an eye out for future opportunities.

Let’s talk about how nonprofits can tell stories that matter, create content they’re proud of, and love it ‘til death do you part — or at least until the next campaign.

Feed Yourself First: How to Make Money as a Content Marketer

We all need money to live. If you can't quit your day job (yet) to write poetry full time, you can still earn a living as a writer. This presentation at the 2024 annual Nebraska Writers Guild conference will uncover job opportunities for writers in businesses and nonprofits — and how to get them. From the first $40 gigs to full-time freelancing, learn from my experience as a freelance ghostwriter, social media manager, in-house and agency content writer, editor, and copywriter.
